Presenter Monty Don has revealed that he may need to let go of his gardeners following his departure from the BBC. For 15 years, viewers have admired his stunning Herefordshire garden, known as Longmeadow, while he hosted the show Gardeners' World from his own backyard.

Earlier this month, Don announced that he would be leaving the show. Speaking for the first time since the announcement, he disclosed that the BBC had been paying part of the salaries of two full-time gardeners to maintain the garden's beauty and readiness for filming.

During an event at the RHS Malvern autumn flower show, Don explained:
“"I have had two full-time gardeners, and have had them since I have been on Gardeners' World, and from day one it’s been in my BBC contract that I have to have two full-time gardeners."
He noted that the garden must always look camera-ready, especially when he is away filming in locations like the Rhine or India. He added, "The BBC pays a contribution towards their wages. Not enough, but they do pay something, which is great. Obviously, that contribution is going to go."
